70-80, Now I’m Wolverine!!!

Posted in Leveling with tags , , , , , , on October 29, 2012 by sylus

What a whirlwind of a weekend for me in Wow. It felt like I played a ton this weekend, but looking back, I may have had an extra hour… Maybe? My play schedule usually revolves around when our little ones are asleep. Now,if you have, or have had two little ones at home, 3 and 1, then you realize that this is usually not very much time when both are asleep, everything that needs completed(housework, homework, yard work, cooking, errands, lesson plans…you all know the drill) is done, and you have some spare energy left over to commit to some gaming. I had an extra day off Friday due to parent teacher conferences last week, so technically I got an extra hour and a half Friday when both kids were down, somehow, at the same time for a nap! I played Friday night for about two hours, Saturday at nap time for another two hours, I didn’t have the energy to play Saturday night, so I instead watched some Big Bang Theory with the wife, and played during naps Sunday afternoon. When I quit Sunday I was two bubbles from 80. Later that day I snuck off, did three quests, and was done. 80. Boom. Milestone.

No, if this was two expansions ago, I would be ready to start gearing up my little monk, too bad this isn’t two expansions ago… I still have the slog from 80-90. The big slow down in leveling is about to start, half of my leveling gear turns to mush, further slowing down my slow crawl to 90… Oi. On the bright side, I haven’t leveled a hundred toons through cata and panda yet, so I am excited about that prospect. The content will seem fresher, and I won’t feel as bad about going through it slower.

On another great note from this weekend, I was able to acquire the Sunstone Panther! I got it for a steal off of the AH. Now, I know the mats alone run well over 20k, making the 20K I paid for it seem like a huge steal!!! It is so far my favorite mount. Had it been the sapphire panther, I would feel better about it, as that is beautiful, and blue is my favorite color… Why did I hear that crappy Aerosmith song “pink” in my head as I typed that…. Anyway…

On November 10th I’m having a gaming day with Nimrock and friend to the blog, Spiffie. Now, my goal is to hit 90 that day. We are starting around 7ish that morning, and gaming as late as I an handle. We will do a few instances, as I want to see all of the panda ones, but I plan on mostly questing. That gives me roughly two weeks to get ready for this day of dinging 90 awesomeness. It can be done, even on my meager play schedule.

What I need from you studly “I’ve already got four toons to 90″ gamers is this: what level should I be at when I start gaming that Saturday? Basically, how long did it take you to go through panda content? Should I be sitting at 85, and a good 18-20 hours would get me there? Should I be sitting at 88? Is two levels doable on that final day? I really don’t know, as I’ve really done nothing in game but level my monk, who is now 80, with just under two days played time. Help a monk out! I’ll take full advantage of the monk daily with enlightenment, doing that every day. I’ll play a few evenings each week, and get a few good hours in next weekend. I can easily see myself at 85 without pushing it, but I really think I need to push further into panda stuff… Thoughts? Comments? Helps?

Now, one of my favorite parts of hitting 80 is doing away with my heirloom weapons. They stop getting better at 80, and I really want to use fist weapons! The ones you can buy in the monk zone at 80 look fierce. I mean seriously fierce. Best looking I’ve seen in quite a while. Here is a pic I took shortly after dinging 80, equipping my weapons of awesome, and doing my very best Wolverine impression. I’ll leave you with this for the day. Enjoy.

I am in love with monk Zen flight. I hit 60 last night and went straight to my trainers, learned the glyph, and here I am, floating out front of Grommash Hold.

Monking Around

Posted in Leveling with tags , , , , on October 15, 2012 by sylus

Welcome back everyone, I hope your weekend was as productive as mine. welcome back to work all of my canadian friends, I hope your holiday was great. I had a great weekend with the family, my daughter had a birthday party, sugar, wrapping paper, and boxes still litter my house… when you think you have it all picked up, cleaned up, guess what… THERE I S STILL MORE HIDING!!!

As for my ingame time this weekend, it was slim to none, but that didnt keep me from leveling from 52 to 58. Now I know what some of you hardcore gamers out there are saying when I tell you I’ve only gotten my monk to lvl 58, “noob” “slowpoke” and “lollearntoplay” come to mind. I on the other hand am quite proud of what I’ve done with my wow time since Pandaria dropped. I checked my played time on Saturday afternoon, and as of then had played a total of 17 hours and change. This isn’t all of my Pandaria play time. I started a panda monk, leveled him to 30, then decided I wanted an Orc monk, was too cheap to drop 25 bucks for a race change, and rerolled ANOTHER monk.

Up until this point I had really done nothing but dungeon finder from level 15-52. Then I hit the dreaded mid 50’s slog. Now, is it just me or is this the proving grounds levels in the slog to 90? I had ran with a ton of groups who were flying through instances. Tanks could easily hold aggro, healers had no problems keeping everyone alive, and DPS did their jobs by destroying things(minus tanks…. Their threat generation through the vengeance mechanic((attack power increase while being beat on)) kept their DPS through the roof). When I hit those 50’s lvl instances, that all seemed to end. Once we got into ZF, DM, ya know, late 40’s early 50’s this all changed. I was in horrid group after horrid group. Tanks couldn’t hold threat, even after giving them plenty of room up front to build threat, healers couldn’t keep tanks, yet alone DPS alive(tanks first of course) and NOONE KNEW WHERE THEY WERE GOING!!!

After wasting my time in dungeons leveling to 54 on Friday evening, I decided that when I got in game Saturday I would just start hitting some quests rather than dungeons. So, I logged in Saturday afternoon during my kiddo’s nap and went looking for the quest board outside of Hellscream’s place. Silithis. Ok, I haven’t been there in…. Well, forever. So, I hopped on the flight path and ignored the game for the three minute flight, while rewatching season two of the walking dead to catch up for season three, which dropped last night… That’s another rant in itself, I’m a dish network customer…. RasafrasadishnetworksucksfordroppingAMC…

Anyway, back to wow… I was shocked at how fast I was leveling questing. I went from 54 to 56 in about thirty minutes… Blown away. So, last night I sat down to knock out a level before bed. I destroyed the blasted lands in around an hour, and hit 58. Now I am super excited about heading into outlands. Honestly, I loved the quests, the zones, the dungeons. I think I will fly throu outlands and into northrend just as fast. Will I go back to dungeons? Yes, and yes. I love the dungeons in outlands, with the hellfire peninsula dungeons being some of my favorite in the game… RED ORC’S!!!

Am I power leveling through the game, not really, but on my casual schedule, I’m going as fast as I can! I love the monk. On a side note, the rising tiger kick thingie at 56…. Best move to date. I love the crap out of it. If I wasn’t destroying mobs before this, now I’m two and three shooting mobs. Amazing. If you haven’t read up, or listened to any monk related guides, Eatmopie does a guest appearance on the Sept. 24th episode on Convert to Raid. If you want to find Eatmopie(he’s not perfect, he’s a gnome after all) he is on Facebook, just look for Eatmopie. I really think Pie would like this guy, just a guess.

Guys, have a great week, get your work done, family first, then tear up Azeroth for me.

Weekend Warrior

Posted in A Word with tags , , , , , , , , on October 7, 2012 by sylus

Aaaaaaand, another weird weekend. I should have this thing figured out by now, plans never go as planned, and I will never stay on target by playing on the one toon I plan on playing… This weekend is no different! My PLANS were to get my little Orc monk to level 50… He’s barely 42. My PLANS were to spend Friday evening, Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening, and Sunday afternoon, and Sunday evening gaming to accomplish that goal… I played a little Friday evening, then fell asleep much earlier than planned due to my wife having a migraine and I was tired from wrangling my kiddos(not complaining, I’d do anything for my wife and kids, just pointing out this wasn’t in the plan) Saturday afternoon I never got around to the computer due to odd nap times and a wedding, Saturday evening is where this story gets interesting, and this guy gets some wow monk time. So, as some of you are aware of, I’m a huge transmog fan. Seriously, HUGE. Now, when I sat down Saturday evening, I had a clear three hours ahead of me, three hours I would devote to doing nothing but Q’ing up for the random dungeon finder… Right after I fly out to stone talon mountains to start doing the quests to get the sweet shoulder pads from the quartermaster. Yeah, go figure I DIDN’T Q… I just keep right on questing… And pet battling… And logging back and forth working the AH… Seriously, I am a sad, sad altaholic/ADHD gamer. This really shouldn’t surprise me. But you have to admit, my transmog monk gear looks pretty sweet.

20121007-225123.jpg Lets move onto Sunday… So, I woke up Sunday morning feeling like crap. My allergies were destroying my face, and my head was pounding. I let my wife take the kids to church while I stayed home, sleeping. Lets fast forward a few hours, I’ve slept off my headache (side note, let’s just say the headache was entirely my Caffiene addicted brain was deprived, I had runout of my drug of choice and not had any coffee yet. Caffiene deficient. Some ibuprofen, coffee, and sleep turned half of my battle around. Now, I enjoyed a good lunch with my family, put the kiddos down to bed for their afternoon nap, booted up my trusty wow machine, went to the refrigerator to get a caffeinated beverage, some pretzels, and sat down to finally tear through the 8 levels I’m lacking in my level 50 goal for the weekend. I start up Netflix, I’m addicted to cheesy sitcoms, and double click the ol’ wow icon. I input my gaming info, and watch the connecting screen…. And I continue to watch the connecting screen. Ok, what gives? I pull up the wow forums to see what’s going on. Low and behold this takes place… Dualshockers This was their official statement, courtesy of Nethaera:

12:17 p.m. PDT – We are continuing to work to resolve the connection issues that many players are experiencing while attempting to log in to the game. We do not have an ETA for when this will be resolved but will provide an additional update at approximately 1:15 p.m. PDT. —————————————————————————————————- 11:15 p.m. PDT- We are currently experiencing an issue after the performed rolling restarts that is affecting the authentication servers. We are currently investigating this issue and will provide further updates within an hour.

And what was suppose to be quick rolling restarts ends up being them fixing back doors, stopping general mayhem at the core, and in the process, leaving the servers down for a few hours. Now, technically it wasn’t the servers that were down. Just the authentication servers. Now, I wasn’t in game, so that screwed me over. After about fifteen minutes I went down stairs, watched five episodes of the Big Bang theory, then the kids were up, my day was game, set, match. So, here I am, sitting at 42, where I should have been at least 50. Oh well. Wow is of course not everything, heck for me it’s barely anything most of the time. Life comes first, but honestly, screw you hacker guy for ruining my Sunday afternoon game time.

UPDATE
I found this article this morning that tracked down one of the perpetrators of my crappy Sunday afternoon. Read this link, it is amazing. And I would say to him, seriously? Blaming blizzard for your asshatery? Screw you guy.

Screw you guy. Screw you, and get off my lawn!(just the hacker bs guy),

Crouching Orc, Hidden Panda

Posted in Alts, Discussion with tags , , , , , , , , on October 1, 2012 by sylus

Welcome back hordies and wannabe hordies. This has been an incredible week for the world of Warcraft. If you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past few months, Mists of Pandaria dropped last Tuesday, and I’ve gotten very little sleep since. Now, I didn’t get to take off TEN DAYS like the Fikkle, but I did get a day off of teaching to play on Tuesday. Now THAT was a great day. Nimrock and I started off hanging out at Spiffie’s (long time friend and guildy). Now, I’m not called OldManSy for nothing, and 12am PST is NOT 12am central… I barely made it to midnight. I am an old man. Up and down a few times to log in, see a few things, get tired twenty minutes later and go back to bed… Next time, I’m just going to bed at “normal” OldMan time and tearing through the next morning. No question. Now in a week I’ve really not played my main, Gozz much. I’ve been in love with the monk class. I spend Tuesday morning and afternoon leveling my first monk as a windwalker. He made it to the ripe old age of 29. Now, it was at this point that I decided I wanted an Orc Monk. Soooooo, I’ve spent the rest of the week leveling an Orc, also a windwalker. I love the panda, don’t get me wrong, I’m still planning on leveling my panda, but he’s going brewmaster. It fits, I mean panda brewmaster. It has to happen. Back to the Orc. I spent the first fifteen levels flying through quests, and since then have been hammering the instances. Little by little I’ve gotten him to 32. Now, that’s not “flying,” but for me, it’s been a lot of playtime. Some of the abilities that the windwalkers have are amazing!

20120930-221201.jpg This move is SICK!!! Flying through the air, moving at extreme speed is not only fun, but sometimes DANGEROUS!!! My first instance after getting this ability was Rage Fire Chasm. Or as I like to call it, “take a bath in Lava…” I’ve since then learned to control my flight, but I’ve seen monks fly into the next pull, fly off of ledges, into lava, and even pull bosses. Yup. DPS pulling bosses is bad, mmmkay? Now, I am in love with orc’s, so my new monk, Galrog, has been a blast. As most of you know I’m a bit into RP… Soooooo, if you aren’t into the RP, skip the next short paragraph, look at the pictures, then leave your obligatory “RP is for nerds” comment. Kthanks.

20120930-221943.jpg So that’s the new Orc, son of Gozz, my main hunter. Now, Gozz was a fan of Thrall, Galrog has fallen into Garrosh’s camp and is happy with the direction he is taking the Horde. This has put stress on the family ties. Now, more to come in later posts on the Gozz/Galrog family feud. (See, i told you it would be a short paragraph!)

Okay, back to the monk flying kick of awesome. Here is a bit of a visual if you haven’t had the chance to see just how far this moves you. We start out here, look at the farm in the background, that’s where we are heading.

20120930-222515.jpg Hit the kick…

20120930-222538.jpg BOOM DRAGON!!!

20120930-222657.jpg Aaaaaannnnnndddd now I’m at the farm. Now, put fire pits, tons of mobs, and bosses all around, you can see how this could be a huge problem for some monks. Some monks. I’m really afraid that we are going to end up with the monk version of the huntard…. The monktard. Hopefully, after a month or two of the monk being over powered, and super fun to level, the NERF bat will come back out, and everyone will go back to playing their favored class, and the number of monks that get to 90 will level out a bit with your hunters, pallys, priests, and druids. Honestly, I’m hoping this happens. Afterall, who wants to play world of monkcraft? It leveled out for death knights, so I don’t see why it shouldn’t even out for monks as well.

Leave me a comment with your thoughts, I really am curious to see what you all think of how monkmania is panning out for you guys. Now, I leave you with your monk zen moment of the post. Enjoy.

Dreaming of Pandaria

Posted in Discussion with tags , , , , , on September 28, 2012 by sylus

Welcome back friends. I dont know about you, but I am REALLY enjoying Mists. In particular, I’m enjoying the new monk class. So far I’ve leveled a panda monk to 29, an orc to lvl 5, and I honestly have 5 monk names saved on my main server…. this is bad for my altaholic tendencies. Now, I’m not happy with my Panda monk at the moment. I’m leveling him a windwalker, DPS, and he’s fun, don’t get me wrong, but he really needs to be a brewmaster. It just fits. Pandas+drinking+pissing things off=win. He will be a tank. I’m really wanting an orc monk to run the dps spec. Last night I created one I am happy with, and will be leveling him as a brewmaster to lvl 29, then swapping spec’s with the panda. All will be well with the world. Yes, I know I can just swap specs out now, but I’m more of a “learn as I level” kind of guy. For me, I want to be brewmaster from the Begining, windwalker from the Begining, mistweaver from the Begining. You get the picture. Anyway, now that you know my next few weeks worth of wow plans, let me show you what I’ve been playing with on my ipad. I love drawing, art, ANYTHING creative. I’ve been fiddling with an app called Brushes. It was 6 bucks, and well worth it. I’ve taken the WoW armory screenshot, and “fiddled” with them. I draw overlays on top of them. Now, some might consider this cheating. It probably is. I’m not selling them, I’m not making them for anyone else other than me. So, call it what you will, I like it. So, I present you with this weeks project, titled “Dreaming of Pandaria. I hope you at least get a giggle out of it. I’m a fan.

Panda-eve, or the Death of a Cataclysm

Posted in Discussion with tags , , , , , , , on September 23, 2012 by sylus

On the eve of Panda-mas( when Pandas bring us gifts of five more levels, new zones, the monk class, and most importantly two days off from work to play with panda gifts.) I’m spending my last cataclysm night(Sunday) NOT playing wow. Don’t get me wrong, I still am a HUGE fan of the game, I’m just sitting ready for the new content. I’ve got no in game goals at the moment. I have a few things I COULD do, but honestly, nothing that is pulling me into the game. I’ve done the Theramore scenario everyday this week, and lets be honest, had I not read the book, I would be really pissed about the whole event, and probably given up running the whole stinkin thing after getting my mana-bomb and everlasting Horde firework. However, I did read the book, and like the part I am playing in the scenario… Once, maybe twice. After almost a weeks worth of runs, I’m getting sick of it already.

So, what do I have to contribute to the wow world blogosphere today, that others haven’t shared? Probably nothing. Honestly, there are some great write ups about the monk class, pandas, the new high level content, Theramore… I’m just honestly fresh out of good stuff.

Now, that doesn’t mean I’ve got no goals going into panda, that doesn’t mean I don’t have fun filled panda dreams in my future… I mean, I do. I’ll be having a pre-panda party tomorrow night, if by party you mean staying at a friends house so I can stay up playing wow all hours of the night and NOT be awakened by my beautiful daughter and delightful one year old son first thing Tuesday morning. Only to wake up on a couch, brush my teeth, and play pandaland all day. Yup. A party. Be jealous. Not to downplay my audience here, but many wouldn’t find this a party. To them, I say suck it. As a married man with two kids, all night gaming sessions are few and far between. So far between in fact, that the last time I did anything like this was the cata expansion. And even then I was so tired from having to actually drive an hour away to pick up the expansion that I was stupid tired when I got home and just passed out and went to bed. To this I say, thank you blizzard for offering digital content. You are my hero.

Enjoy this nonimportant post interwebs. Enjoy.

Mobile Auction House For Dummies

Posted in Discussion with tags , , , , , , , , on September 17, 2012 by sylus

When I think of fun things to do on my phone, playing wow usually isn’t the first thing to come to mind. Sure, I think of Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio, heck, even Angry Birds Space(I’m a fan of angry birds, ok?) but WoW? Nope, can’t say I’ve really thought of WoW on my phone.

At the beginning of the summer I was looking for a way to spend some time playing wow, but with two kids at home, running a swimming pool, and wanting to spend my “free time” pursuing family and friends, I was in need of some Azerothian time during my day.  I found this through the mobile auction house app on my iPhone. Spending five minutes here, five minutes there, I was able to amas mountains of gold. Considering I had never seen anything north of the 5k gold for each flying skill I had raised, my summer high of 50k was really an accomplishment for me. I say summer high, because I don’t have that in gold anymore. Granted, I’ve spent quite a bit of that on mounts, ie chopper, traveling tundra mammoth, and a few others, raised flying skills on a few toons that needed it, and spent way, way to much on transmog gear… I’m ashamed to say I paid 6k for the blade of wizardry on my bank alt… Yeah, sad, I know. Now, I am still playing the AH, and really enjoying it. The market seems to have slowed down on some things, and I think that will pick up after MOKFP drops next week, bit I’m still making gains. I’m sitting on too much inventory in my opinion, and on a few really pricy items that will sell, but will take some time to move, and I have 13K gold right now. Granted, there are many people sitting at gold cap. I’m nowhere near gold cap. No. Where. Near.

So, why should you listen to me about how the mobile auction house has made me gold? Well, because I’m just doing this part time. I rarely hit my 200 transactions per day limit, yes there is a limit, and I go days at a time without posting to the MAH, and I still have gold. If I can do this, what can a dedicated mobile auction houser do? Well, they are probably already gold capped. Let’s take a look at the MAH on my iPhone.

This is the basic home screen. On it you will see several pieces of information. Browse, My Bids, My Auctions, and Create are the main headers, while information about your current auction house activities are listed below. The interface is pretty self explanatory to be honest.

Some of the tricks that have been helpful in making money using the mobile auction house aren’t really tricks at all. Any idiot can do these few things, and make money hand over fist. Now, this may sound stupid, but here is the number one, biggest trick to make money using the auction house. It isn’t professions, it isn’t farming and selling, it’s buy low, sell high. There you have it. The biggest secret to making money. Buy low. Sell high. Now, I know what you are thinking, if everyone knows this, why aren’t they all doing it? One of the biggest advantages to the mobile app over the in game client, is that you can do it anywhere. Are hitting on a train on your way home? Pull it out. Are you in your office at work looking busy? Pull it out. Are you sitting at your computer playing wow… Okay, so it won’t work if you are actually logged into the game, but enjoy that time. Spend it playing, not worrying about the auction house. It will still be there when you log off.

Don’t go going ho, buying up every scrap of a single item on your first day. Gt to know your market. Start small. Pick our two or three items that you think you can successfully buy at a steady price, and mark it up several times per day, knowing that at times you will have a ton of that material lying around, and no, it doesn’t move everyday of the week. Some days will be slow, and all you will do is buy. Don’t fret. That is why you need to take a week or two to know the market. Know other sellers who are attempting to do the same thing. I have a few sellers for transmog goods on my server who always, always have the same set prices on certain sets. I’ve learned this, and now know where to set my prices when they come up without even looking at what he is selling at the moment. Trade goods are better money makers in the long run, even if they don’t net the huge amounts as fast. Over time, these will be your biggest markets.

I don’t have secrets really, in fact, I’ll tell you my number one seller. Embersilk cloth. Plain ol’ simple embersilk cloth. Yup. I buy any piece that sits below a set value, them resell them just above that value. Let’s pretend it’s 3G 50s. (it is 3G 50s) now, if I buy up every piece, every time I log in to the mobile ah, I have a Crapton of embersilk. I never post as much as I took off the market either. Creating a huge amount on the ah just drives prices down in the long run. No, I sit on my stockpile, selling it slowly. Some days you will sell more than you started with, other days you won’t. In the end, it pans out if you set your price points correctly.

The mobile auction house has been a way for me to spend some time in Azeroth, without dropping everything I am doing to go to my desktop, log in, avoid getting trampled by toddlers, while still feeling like I am contributing to my warcrack habit. It did the trick for me this summer, kept me playing while others had moved on, and honestly became my game within a game. There would be almost whole weeks where the only wow time I got was playing the mobile AH…

So there you have it, the mobile AH in a very short, very small package. If you have any questions about my experiences with the mobile ah, please leave a comment and I’ll try to get back with you ASAP. Now that it’s free, you have no excuse to not get out there and make some gold! Just don’t forget your buddy,

Chips and Salsa!

Welcome back to Monday folks! Look on the bright side, this week, if you reside in the U.S., you have the day off for Labor day. If you live elsewhere, sorry, welcome back to work. On Saturday, 3/4theHorde Got together while pie traveled south to visits family. Nimrock and I met up with him at one of the local Mexican establishments for dinner. Good food, good friends, and talking yours truly into playing D&D over the Internet makes for a great evening. It just sucks our other 1/4theHorde (Fikkle) is not just all the way north in Canada,  he’s even FURTHER north than usual. Who knows, if all goes as planned, we’ll be traveling to Northland next summer for a true Cana-Shenanicon meetup.
Back to WoW. As I stated in last weeks post, I am in love with the gold sink/time sink that is transmogrification. Seriously, I have multiple “outfits” for each character that I play/bank with ,and usually switch them up at least weekly… Sad I know. I wanted to take a minute and show off some of the great looks I’ve achieved over the past few months since transmoging became a thing.
First off we’ll start with my main Gozz. I’m a fan of red on my hunter, so I have a few red sets, one my self titled dragon hunter. I love the shiny red plate look with the dragon gun from BRD. My only regret is finishing the quest in SMV that gives the all red dragon head helmet years ago, before transmoging… So I can’t fully complete the look I want. Oh well.
Next is his take on the deadly gladiator set. The shoulders and helmet are the defining pieces of this set, and then throw in the org tabard and the horde bow…. S. I. C. K. Not to mention his rare Hydra pet, that can now be my tank solo pet!
Next is my two banker toons, Vos and Jesuit. Vos has spent some gold on his outfit, but with the cash he’s brought in, I’m okay with it! Here is his Silvermoon Vigilante look.
Next is his Templar Set, complete with Blade of Wizardry and His Tome of Auctionhouseing.
Next up, my bag man. He’s the guy that puts together all of the raw materials I find into bags. Bags=gold atm for me. Anyway, here is his Silver Thread set.
Finally, the character that has been through the most changes over my years of wow. He’s been an undead rogue, a gnome rogue (sad but true), a female orc rogue, a female bloodelf rogue, and now finally, has come full circle, an undead rogue. Just typing that makes me hate myself and the amount of money that has went into just race changes with this toon… not to mention server changes, and faction changes… I should quit while I’m really behind… Anwyay, here is Sylus in his newly minted Guild Colors PVP Sickle Set.
As you can see, I’m pretty sold on Transmoging. I want my gear to look how I choose, not how some dev thinks my “high end” armor should look. Some of my favorite pieces are random drops and quest loot. Those daggers Sy is sporting come from rep… from the walrus people.. I forget their name off the top of my head. What I’m saying is, they are sick, and easy to get, not heroic-hardmode-haters-gonna-hate-mode-82-man-raid content.
I really want to see some of your transmog sets. Leave us some links to your armory pages. Who knows, I might come up with something nice for my favorites.
It’s past my bedtime,
OldManSy

Tauren, Orcs, and Pandas, Oh My!

Welcome back folks! Yes, yes, yes, you are seeing this correctly. No your feed readers aren’t going crazy and lying to you, we are truly back! The timing is perfect. We all quit writing on FortheHorde at the end of Wrath/beginning of Cataclysm, and now, with the incoming panda expansion, the timing is perfect to dust off our WordPress account and get our minds ready to be blown… Minds ready to have been blown? Minds ready for blowing? Anyway, grammar is still a bit rusty, give it a few weeks, it might come back… Then again, this is OldManSy… It may never have been there in the first place. Bunny trails, where was I?

So, with a new redone website, Forthehorde Reforged, we’ve brought back all of your favorite bloggers from before, with a scheduled format ready for your Internet entertainment. Of course I’m back, but do you remember the rest of the crew? They’re all back as well. Nimrock’s back and ready to swing the grammar-hammer, Pie’s ready to bring his thing, and Fikkle’s back with his distinguished, classy Canadian vibe. (eh?aboot?moose?hockey?eh?) yeah, “eh” is in there twice.

With 5.04 hitting tomorrow, it would be perfect to bring out some class guides, glyph guides, talent specs for the x class, but let’s be honest, why should we reinvent the wheel? There are so many good sites out there doing just that. Let’s face it, we aren’t that site… However I WILL give you some links to show off to you that:
A) I can read,
B) I can do a good google search, and
C) I do still know where to find the best Internets. Yes, internets.
Warcraft Hunters Union has a great guide to paladins…. Seriously, are you really going to just believe me? Duh, it’s a hunters site, as expected the guide is aboot the hunter class in 5.04. Great tips on glyphs, new rotations, the simplified talent trees… Er, not trees, but um… What are they calling them now? Talent choices? Either way, you know what I mean.
Ok, for times sake, and not wanting this giant wall of text to get much bigger, go to your usual sites,Wow Insider, ten ton hammer, MMO champion, whatever works for you. Now I can get back on track for a decent welcome back, intro post.
I’d love to tell you a tale of how Sylus and Gozz, my two main wow toons from back in the day, took vacations, traveled the world, met new people, but in reality they were working the taco stand behind Garrosh’s pad in Orgrimmar. Seriously, that guy can put away the tacos. But in all honesty, I think I am the only one of the four of us that didn’t let his account go inactive in the time from the end of Wrath to present. I didn’t play nearly as much as I had in the past, what with having our second child, working what seemed like nonstop, and coaching, gaming took the backseat. Let’s be honest, with this current expansion, it will also take the backseat for the most part. The bright side, is I can do alot of reading up on the game in my downtime, and then my gaming sessions, albeit fewer of them, will be more focused and informed, ready to tackle things to gain content for the blog.
Honesty, this was what Cata was like for me…

Deathwing’s breath smells horrible, one of you guys should get that guy some mints… oh crap, he’s right behind me isn’t he???

Now, during the cataclysm expansion I was pretty much playing as a loner. I got into a very large guild that I thought wouldn’t mean anything to me in the long run, but lo and behold I’ve met some decent people. None of whom I would place at the level of friendship I share with these blogger guys, but good people still the same. I’m currently an officer in that guild, and enjoy helping young budding hunters learn the craft of huntering, and the discouragement of the huntardering. I can honestly say I know my class. I love being a hunter, even if I was never end game raiding, I held my own in 5 man content, and really enjoyed the “End Times” heroics. The lore in those instances was amazing. I finished up lore master, increased my mount count to 115, and fell madly in love with transmogrification…. Madly… Deeply… In love. Honestly, transmog was why I started doing lore master in the first place. I would see gear, ask where it came from, and time and time again, they would tell me they got it as a quest reward in x zone. So, thank you Blizzard for letting me throw money at you to make my gear look awesome… I have all of my bank bags full, and have taken advantage of the massive gold sink that is void storage. Thanks again for that. Honestly, that is what kept me around. It was something I could do by myself, with my messed up short time framed schedule. I wasn’t interested in leveling alts, in fact, I deleted more toons during this expansion than ever before. I’m looking forward to more solo content for my main, as well as rolling a few alts in the process, but that will be another time, in another post.

Guys, we’re glad to be back, and we look forward to hearing how everyone has been in the blogosphere while we were away. Stop by, say hi, and remember, we’re here For the Horde!~OldManSy
